READING NOOK | CONCEPT, MODELLING, ANIMATION

PROJECT OVERVIEW & OBJECTIVE This project explores end-to-end 3D worldbuilding by reimagining the functional geometry of the Bauhaus movement as a surreal, contemporary dreamscape. Using Cinema 4D and Premiere Pro, I handled the entire pipeline from initial concept sketches to hard-surface modeling, texturing, kinetic animation, and final color grading. The result is a complete digital environment that combines historical art theory and modern spatial motion design.

CORE CONCEPT: BAUHAUS x READING NOOK __ I built the entire scene around a dream reading nook, simply because books feel like the natural home for all that Bauhaus design knowledge. __ Most modern 3D spaces can feel a bit cold, so I wanted to flip that and design an introspective spot that feels super inviting and surreal.

ARTISTIC INFLUENCE: FILIP RASTOVIC __ I pulled direct visual cues from 3D artist Filip Rastovic, especially his sleek balance of primitive floating shapes and layered circular geometries. __ Using Rastovic’s approach, I incorporated spheres and soft curves to break the rigid austerity typically associated with early modernist design. __ The isolated podium layout lets the surreal composition stand out against a clean, uncluttered background without competing for attention.

CONCEPT SKETCHING & SPATIAL LAYOUT I started with pencil sketches to test the overall composition on a circular stage, mapping out how the spiral stairs, curved backdrop, and floating primitives would interact. Laying down notes for lighting, metallic accents, and modular props directly on the page gave me a clear blueprint before opening Cinema 4D.

COLOUR SCHEME & MOOD Instead of sticking to the traditional, high-contrast Bauhaus primaries: red, blue, and yellow; I pivoted toward warm terracottas, soft oranges, muted creams, and gentle pastel accents. This shifted the mood away from feeling cold or clinical, creating an inviting, sun-drenched atmosphere that feels like a calm, cozy reading retreat.

RENDER & PRODUCTION PIPELINE Before touching any 3D geometry, I mapped out the entire workflow from asset creation through to the final color grade. Deciding early to output high-fidelity image sequences from Cinema 4D and handle grading in Premiere Pro kept the process streamlined and saved crucial rendering time down the line.

3D MODELLING PROCESS & TECHNIQUES I used a mix of splines, sweeps, and box modeling in Cinema 4D to translate my sketches into clean architectural features and custom furniture. Blending these functional structures with floating geometric primitives helped capture that signature, surreal Bauhaus balance right in the viewport.

TEXTURING, MATERIAL DESIGN & LIGHTING I built a tactile material palette using soft matte ceramics, warm plaster, and ribbed surfaces to give the geometric shapes a cozy, tangible feel. To break up the muted tones and add a touch of luxury, I mixed in sleek patterns, wood textures and subtle glass reflections that catch the light across the scene. For lighting, I used controlled reflections and soft ambient fill to maintain a cozy, inviting reading atmosphere.

FINAL EXPORT & OUTCOME The final piece brings the whole dreamscape together into a smooth, animated loop that mixes classic Bauhaus ideas with modern 3D styling. I paired the sunlit visuals with warm, mellow background music, turning the scene into a super inviting reading hideaway that highlights the entire journey from initial model to final polish.

KEY IMPACT & OUTCOME __ End-to-End Ownership: Successfully handled every phase of the 3D pipeline solo, moving smoothly from pencil sketches to the final edited video. __ Technical Skill Upgrade: Deepened my skills in Cinema 4D by combining multiple modeling techniques, custom material design, and camera choreography into one cohesive piece. __ Efficient Production Workflow: Planning the rendering and color-grading pipeline early saved valuable time and ensured high-fidelity visual quality in the final cut.
